Wedding Anniversary List – Milestones by Year of Marriage

Silver wedding anniversaries and golden wedding anniversaries are sure to be familiar to most married and unmarried couples, but on which wedding anniversary are wooden, rose, or pearl anniversaries celebrated? Here you will now receive a complete and (almost) gapless table with all Wedding Anniversaries from 1 to 100.

Almost every wedding anniversary has its own special name. The names for wedding anniversaries often vary depending on local traditions and customs. For example, in some places, the “Paper Wedding“ is assigned to the first anniversary and the “Cotton Wedding“ to the second anniversary – while in other places, the Cotton Wedding is already equated with the first anniversary.

There are so many different names for wedding anniversaries. Each year has a special meaning. For example, after 5 years, it's the “Wooden Wedding.“ But why are five years of marriage wooden? On the one hand, wood symbolizes that a marriage is now solidified after five years. On the other hand, it's also a warning: wood isn't indestructible and burns quickly... By the way, the “Mercy Wedding“ doesn't hope that one is now in a status of receiving a pension and that the marriage will soon be over after a proud 70 years. Rather, with this event, one thanks God for His grace that allowed the couple to have spent so many years of their lives together in marriage.

On these wedding anniversaries, they can remember the couple and celebrate their love. Therefore, not all wedding anniversaries have a special name.

These were the traditional wedding anniversaries from the first day to the 100th wedding anniversary. Depending on the region and/or country, these names may differ from the names of the wedding anniversaries on the list. We have tried to include all the variations we know in the wedding anniversaries list. For example, the Cotton Anniversary for the 5th wedding anniversary is the Ox Wedding in more rural regions.

If you know a special name/custom that is not listed on our site, you are very welcome to write to us about it.

We will go into more detail on the respective wedding customs for the different wedding anniversaries in separate posts. Each wedding anniversary has its own unique customs. For example, after 25 and 50 years, the Silver Wedding and Golden Wedding are celebrated grandly with family and friends. Being married to each other for many years and staying married is a great achievement in today's world, which can be celebrated anew each year. Especially in these fast-paced times, it is unfortunately no longer as self-evident as it used to be that one stays by one's partner's side, no matter what comes.

Therefore, one should celebrate every year reached and be newly aware of love again and again, celebrating this love year after year. It doesn't always have to be a grand affair. This can also be wonderfully celebrated in a small family gathering within your own four walls.

If a married couple experiences even their Diamond Wedding Anniversary (60 years) or their Platinum Wedding Anniversary (70 years) together, this is usually a very special gift for these people.

We hope our wedding anniversary list has shown you all the important anniversaries, and that you now have a reason every year to enjoy and celebrate your wedding day!
