Sometimes songs are created precisely when you aren't looking for them at all – and with „I Wasn't Looking for You,“ that is true in more ways than one.
Actually, DJ GerreG was looking for a singer for a completely different production. In the process, he stumbled somewhat by chance upon a country singer whose extraordinary voice captivated from the very first second. The funny thing about it: He wasn't looking for a country singer, nor did he intend to produce a country song at that time.
During the exchange with the singer, this one thought suddenly came to mind:
„I wasn't looking for you.“
And with that, the idea for a new song was born.
The statement fit the moment perfectly—and at the same time, it fit a love story: You’re not looking for anyone, you don’t expect your life to change, and then suddenly you meet that one person who turns everything upside down.
The idea was also particularly exciting because with „I wasn't looking for you“ just recently a modern German Schlager with a similar basic idea had already been created. Instead of simply translating it into English, however, it developed into a completely independent country story.
This is how „I Wasn't Looking for You“ was created as a modern country love song—written for the exact voice that sparked the idea in the first place.
And perhaps that is precisely the most beautiful story behind this song: DJ GerreG was neither looking for this singer nor a new country song. In the end he found both. ❤️🎸
