Celebrating with Heart: DJ GerreG Rescues Two Dogs from Euthanasia Shelter - Thanks to Wedding Guests
Buchholz / Hamburg, May 3, 2026 What began as a wild wedding celebration turned into a last-minute rescue for two dogs. DJ GerreG, whose real name is Holger Korsten, was able to rescue two dogs from a Romanian kill shelter last weekend – thanks to the support of the celebrating wedding guests.
During an event, a spontaneous fundraiser was initiated. The guests collected 95.50 Euros in a short time to support the rescue of a dog. Deeply moved by the willingness to help, the DJ decided to make up the missing amount out of his own pocket – and even went a step further.
„At that moment, I realized: I can help not just one dog, but two,“ said Korsten.
Besides the already rescued little Maltese mix Theo, puppy Moki could also be saved from certain death. The young dog had previously been surrendered to a kill shelter as unwanted offspring – a fate shared by many street dogs in Europe.
Moki is considered a particularly friendly, playful, and cheerful dog who is now getting the chance for a new home. Theo is also currently waiting for a loving environment where he can settle in.
For DJ GerreG, animal welfare is not just a one-off commitment. For years, he has been using his income from gigs and music projects to save dogs from kill shelters. Last year alone, 25 dogs were saved from death.
„Without the people who book me and celebrate with me, none of this would be possible. Every party helps save lives,“ Korsten emphasizes.
The two dogs are currently being cared for by animal welfare organizations and are now looking for a permanent home.
